Uncloud

Version 2.0 · Last updated: August 2026

This policy covers both the Uncloud app and this website. They collect different things, so they are described separately below.

The short version: your thoughts are stored in the European Union, they go to an AI provider only to produce the connections and insights you asked for, we do not train models on them, and we do not sell your data. The app collects no usage analytics at all.

Who we are

Uncloud
Operating from the Netherlands
hello@uncloud-app.com

Uncloud is the data controller for everything described here, and we comply with Dutch and EU data protection law. There is no separate data protection officer; write to the address above and you reach the people who built the app.

What the app collects, and why

Data Legal basis Purpose
Your thoughts: the text you write Performance of our contract with you The app has nothing to show you without them
Voice recordings Performance of our contract with you Sent for transcription, then discarded (see below)
Thought metadata: timestamps, state, canvas positions, connections Performance of our contract with you Drawing your constellation and tracking a thought's lifecycle
Account identity: your name, plus Apple ID, Google account, or email Performance of our contract with you Signing you in and syncing your thoughts across devices
A device marker: vendor ID on iOS, Android ID on Android Our legitimate interest in preventing abuse Making sure the free trial can only be claimed once
Subscription status Performance of our contract with you Knowing whether the smart features are unlocked
Crash reports: stack traces, device model, OS version Our legitimate interest in a working app Finding out why the app broke

The app collects no usage analytics. There is no analytics SDK in it. We do not track which screens you open, how long you stay, or what you tap. If that ever changes, this policy changes first and the app will ask.

There is no guest mode, because your thoughts sync to an account rather than to one phone, and because the trial can only be granted once per person.

Your thoughts and the AI

When you have the smart features, your thought text goes to an AI provider we contract with, to find connections, write a short insight, answer a question on the Ask screen, or clean up a voice transcript.

  • Processing takes place in the European Union.
  • We do not train AI models on your thoughts, and we choose providers whose terms restrict them to processing your content in order to return your result. If we change provider or those terms change, this policy changes with them.
  • Voice audio is sent for transcription and is not stored on our servers. Only the resulting text is saved, as part of your thought.
  • The AI never sees anything you did not put into Uncloud. It has no access to your contacts, your photos, your calendar, or your location.

On the free tier none of this runs at all: no connection detection, no insights, no Ask, no transcription.

Where your data lives

Everything is stored in Google Cloud Firestore in the European Union. The server code and the AI processing run in the EU as well. We do not move your thoughts outside it.

Our infrastructure providers may access limited support and operational data from outside the EU while maintaining their own platforms. Those transfers run under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Who else touches it

Each of these is a processor working on our instructions:

  • Google. Stores your thoughts, signs you in, runs our server code and crash reporting, and provides the AI processing behind the smart features.
  • RevenueCat. Keeps track of whether your subscription is active. It receives a subscriber identifier and the purchase status, never your thoughts.
  • Apple and Google. They sell the subscriptions and take the payment. They are not our processors here; they are the sellers, and their own privacy policies apply to the purchase.
  • SendGrid (Twilio). Delivers the waitlist confirmation email from this website.

No one else receives your data. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it for advertising, and we will not start.

We never see your card number. Apple and Google handle payment details entirely.

How long we keep it

  • Thoughts, active and archived. Kept for as long as your account exists. Releasing a thought moves it to your archive; it is still yours until you delete the account.
  • Crash reports. 90 days, on Firebase's own schedule.
  • Website analytics. 14 months, and only if you accepted them.
  • After account deletion. See the next section.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings → Delete account in the app, or by emailing hello@uncloud-app.com if you no longer have it installed. Deletion from the app takes effect immediately; email requests are handled within 30 days and usually much sooner.

The deletion page covers this in full: both routes step by step, everything that gets deleted, and the few records that survive (the anonymized device marker, crash reports on Google's 90-day schedule, purchase records held by the store, and backups purged within 30 days).

What this website collects

When you sign up for the Uncloud waitlist, we store your email address and a short-lived confirmation token. We use the address to send you one confirmation message and, when Uncloud launches, to tell you it is ready. We delete it after that, and sooner if you ask.

If you accept analytics in the banner, Firebase Analytics collects anonymous usage data (pages visited, approximate session duration, device type) and sets first-party cookies for that purpose only. If you decline, nothing is collected and no cookies are written. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are ever set, whatever you choose.

Data Legal basis Purpose
Email address Legitimate interest To notify you when Uncloud launches, as you requested
Analytics data Your consent To understand how visitors find and experience the page

Decisions made by machine

The AI decides which of your thoughts to suggest connecting, and what to say about them. That is the product working as intended, and it has no legal or similarly significant effect on you: nothing is denied, priced, scored, or reported anywhere on the strength of it. You confirm or ignore every suggestion yourself. We do not profile you for advertising, and we make no automated decisions about you within the meaning of Article 22 of the GDPR.

Children

Uncloud is not for children. You must be at least 16 to use it, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we delete it. Parents and guardians can write to hello@uncloud-app.com.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access. Request a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Rectification. Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure. Ask us to delete your data.
  • Portability. Receive your data in a machine-readable format. The app does this on demand: Settings → Export my thoughts.
  • Restriction. Ask us to pause what we do with your data while something is disputed
  • Object. Object to our use of legitimate interest as a legal basis
  • Withdraw consent. For anything you consented to, at any time, without affecting what came before

To exercise any right, email us at hello@uncloud-app.com. We will respond within 30 days.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority:

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy we post the new version here with a new date and version number. If a change affects what we collect or why, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
